The Queen’s state funeral is under way at Westminster Abbey in a historic service watched by thousands and thousands in London, the UK and around the world.

A single toll from Big Ben signalled the beginning of the service at Westminster Abbey, the place kings and queens have been topped since 1066, and the place the brand new monarch was sitting surrounded by the royal family he now leads.

King Charles III and his siblings – the Princess Royal, Duke of York and Earl of Wessex – had marched behind their mother’s coffin as it travelled the brief distance from Westminster Hall, the place the Queen had been mendacity in state for 4 days, to the traditional Abbey.

World leaders together with US President Joe Biden and France’s Emmanuel Macron and a host of other leaders are amongst 2,000 individuals gathered for the sombre and historic service. Members of European royal households and key figures from public life are among the many congregation.

The late monarch will later be reunited together with her husband the Duke of Edinburgh when she is laid to relaxation at Windsor Castle.

Huge crowds are flocking to London, Windsor and royal websites all through the UK on the national bank vacation, with the service set to draw thousands and thousands of TV viewers throughout the globe.

The Queen’s lying-in-state ended at 6.30am with mourners who queued for hours to view the late monarch’s coffin paying their last respects.
