Prices of pig merchandise are going up by nearly 20 percent, efficient September 20, 2022.

The cost of a kilogram of pork will enhance from 14 cedis to 18 cedis, in accordance to the producer affiliation.

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Pig Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG), Daniel Yaw Siaw, says the value hike is consequently of rising cost of feed, diesel, amongst other components.

Mr. Siam noted that the business wants the upward adjustment as half of pragmatic measures to salvage their operations.

He indicated that costs of pig feed have been rising, whereas farmers have had to battle the African swine fever.

“The industry suffered a setback with the outbreak of the swine fever. Businesses who could not access compensation for culling their animals have not been able to bounce back” acknowledged Mr. Siaw.

He appealed to the government to compensate farmers to help cushion those that lost their animals to the illness.

Mr. Siaw was talking at an occasion to induct new regional executives of the Association in Kumasi.

He urged pork lovers and the general public to bear with the farmers by accepting the marginal enhance to salvage the pig farming business.
