Military officer’s stray bullet kills nursing mother at Manso-Datano in Ashanti Region

A nursing mother has been confirmed dead after a navy officer allegedly discharged live ammunition on mourners at Manso Datano in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region on Saturday morning.

The deceased, Felicia Danquah, and her little one have been reportedly hit by a stray bullet when considered one of 4 troopers attacked residents who have been observing the interment of a colleague who died after falling into an unlawful mining pit, three months in the past.

According to the meeting member for the area, Kwame Amponsah, the navy officer, who’s yet-to-be recognized, ran after the mourners and bodily assaulted an onlooker.

He proceeded to fire pictures into the air to disperse the residents, however an unintentional shot into the bottom deflected and hit the nursing mother and her child.

The 30-year-old mother is said to have died on Sunday night at the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital after sustaining injury to her abdomen whereas her child, who was tied to her again, received shot in the palm.

The deceased was an operator of a pub in the community established by her husband.

It is unclear what may have instigated the incident.

There is nevertheless uneasy calm in the community because the aggrieved youth have demanded the withdrawal of the navy deployment to the area.

Luv News understands management of the Ashanti Regional Police headquarters have since visited the bereaved family and warranted that the perpetrators will be introduced to e book.
