Deputy Lands Minister calls for calm after Kenyasi youth-Newmont clash

Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural assets, George Mireku Duker is urging the offended youth of Kenyasi to stay calm after a clash between the youth and Police officers guarding the Newmont Mine within the city claimed one life and injured 4 others.

The Minister has been visiting victims of the clash and assuring them of government’s resolve to discover and punish these culpable to keep peace.

Members of the Formed Police and Counter-Terrorism Unit stationed with the Newmont Mining Company are believed to have shot one individual and injured 4 others within the ensuing battle.

Twenty-six-year-old, Yaw Asamoah, is likely one of the victims.

He says the community acted on intel of a taking pictures incident and he fell victim to warning photographs fired by obligation officers.

He tells Luv News he sustained bullet wounds to his chest and a few components of his body.

Another victim, Anas Ibrahim said officers of Newmont Mining Company refused to come to his help or take duty after the lethal encounter.

The Youth Organizer for Kenyasi Number 2, Kelvin Addai claimed 16 individuals have died within the community since 2004 when Newmont Company Limited was established there.

The Minister visited victims hospitalised at the Danhart Hospital in Kenyasi.

He hinted at the launch of an investigation into the incident and guaranteed these discovered culpable could be introduced to e-book.
