It was extensively reported that the Blues have been anticipated to announce the appointment of Freund as their new sporting director with proprietor Todd Boehly currently assuming the role in the interim.
However, that now will not be occurring.
Salzburg proprietor Stephan Reiter said: “Christoph Freund has been doing glorious work for us for a few years and solely lately prolonged his contract till 2026. I can hereby affirm that he will stay sporting director of FC Red Bull Salzburg.
“Of course, he knowledgeable me about Chelsea FC’s curiosity in him and we exchanged concepts on a personal degree and in good conversations. The fact is that he will stay our sporting director!
“We have not received any inquiries about a possible change.”
Freund said in a statement: “When a membership like Chelsea is in you, it’s a massive honour not only for you, but additionally for the work of the membership in general.
“But I’ve come to the conclusion that FC Red Bull Salzburg is the best place for me.”
